bill board

i'm not sure why this isn't appearing, any ideas? it plays in windows media player...AVI...small file size...bazzare!

Anyway...its supposed to be a rotatig billboard. It has 4 segments which turn to show the 3 photos which evoke good memories- very cheesy I know. but cheese has its time and place! :D

Snowman

I did this in the first few weeks of the term. I'm not sure why I chose to do a snowman, maybe because it has quite simple structure?! It was just an exercise in learning 3D studio maxx really, I didn't get round to animating him but I found it quite a useful exercise as I found out how to edit polygons and grasped some other basic techniques which have helped me quite a bit when producing my avatar and its environment...

When on this website you can choose a type of 'Being" to be and you are invited to give him/her a name. then you can explore crazy yellow and blue 2 dimensional world using the arrow keys to move left, right and jump. While wandering around you stumble across links but not only that you stumble across others who are using the site and you can talk to them! This website is for a band, who are from new zealand, i love the quirky-ness of this site, it is truly original...i recommend you visit it!

when I created the suspended window it made me think of these idents done by Channel Four. I am thinking of making the windows spell out something or represent a symbol. haven't quite decided what though!

this is just to show where i'm at at the moment. I have a billboard at the back which i am going to try to make rotate, and i've got to add maps to the windows. i am hoping to put AVI files into the windows but haven't quite decided on what yet.

Multimedia Fundraiser

I helped out with the set up and filming of the Multimedia Fundraiser on Sunday 17th. Although there was a lot of waiting around, I found it very useful. We got to observe and get a grasp of how a music video would be set up and what equipment is used. The track and gib we're especially interesting...It also gave me some insight into what can be achieved through taking this course. The guys we were working with have started their own company: Saltrock Productions and they organised the entire event, and with lots of favours did so with very cheaply! As the bands were quite low profile we got to have a chat with the bands as well which was pretty cool. But even so i really liked the bands, Blah Blah Blah and Rebel Soul Collective especially....

They also interviewed the bands and this shows them seeting up the lighting for that...

SeCoNd LiFe DiArY

Found freebie island and bought myself some dashing t-shirts!made a new friend as well...still aven't managed to get rid of my beard so it looks like i'm stuckwith being a man as goig round as a women with bad facial hair wasn't going down too well with fellow second life users!
i visited london as well, it was 3am in the mornig though so there weren't many people around, apart from one that was looking to rent a flat?! spoke to her but not for too long she seemed in a rush.

I'm growing to enjoy my time on second life although i don't think i will be going on it after this project is over...its a bit too freaky for my liking.

I watched the Virtual Adultey documentary on YouTube (Part 1 above) and its quite scary how much SecondLife can affect someones life. An american lady in the documentary spent the best part of 14hrs a day on it and ended up having a 'developed' (shall we say)relationship with a guy in London. She was a house wife and ended up neglecting her children and putting stresses on her marriage.

I can see that virtul worlds can be a neccessary escape from real life for some people; but ever heard of the saying 'putting your head in the sand'?! I don't think this is the answer...it's not even good for the eyes staring at a computer screen all day?!

Identities Idea

I have finally thought of a idea for the identity project that i am happy with. i am going along the lines of how everyone you meet has some influence on who you are, whether it is copying a saying from a friend or having your mother eyes. So i am going to create my avatar from cutouts of my friend and families' features and then have my 2D avatar wondering round a virtual world where there are billboards for films i have watched/maps from places i've been etc. At the moment i am thinking about my avatar listening to an ipod which the audience can hear and looking at all the scenery. i'm hoping that 3D Studio Maxx will lend itself to this, but theres only one way to find out...

My animation will be similar to the BBC's 'Charlie and Lola' in its 2D and quite jerky style.

This is an example of magazine cutout animation i found on youtube

I imagine it will be similar to the way they have merged photographs to make an amusing representations of politions etc on the back drop to 'Have I Got News For You'

Tom Miguel_music video

On the 7th Feb, I attended the recording of a music video. The song:'She Kissed Me In The Morning' by solo artist-Thomas Miguel, wasn't to my taste but very catchy to say the least-I had it in my head all day!
There was quite a lot of volunteers throughout the day so by the time my turn came there wasn't much to do, but observing was still worth-while and quite interesting. They used the Green Screens in one of Waverly's recording studios, it has made me want to use them so in the process of thinking of a good idea...

The company was called The Fire Factory. I have asked if I could go to view their offices when they start to edit so quite looking forward to that as i don't know that much about editing green screens, and i've looked at their website and their previous work looks quite good...

The images show the camera angles etc for the music video in story board style....

SECOND LIFE MADNESS!

http://www.nypost.com/seven/02042008/jobs/sight_unseen_289356.htm

"Last month Regina Spektor's album was the first virtual record release by a major company. BBC Radio 1 has 'rented' a tropical island within Second Life for a year, where the world's biggest virtual music festival was staged in parallel with the One Big Weekend event. While people attended the real concert in Dundee, the music by Franz Ferdinand, Pink and others was streamed live into Second Life, where 6,000 avatars crowded around a virtual stage, hosted by an avatar of DJ Chris Moyles and stewarded by computerised bouncers. Each left with a virtual digital radio to carry about inside Second Life."

"Linden Lab, the San Francisco company which launched Second Life in 2003, has rules against offensive behaviour in public, such as racial slurs or overtly sexual antics. Its punishment is unique. 'If someone is regularly abusive, we have a prison,' said vice-president Dave Fleck. 'They are put in a cornfield and made to watch black and white television Fifties public service announcements in a constant loop."

"Alayne Wartell, 42, of Harrogate, met her real-life husband in Second Life and now works full-time within it, earning a living from her virtual shoe and flower shop."

SIGHT UNSEEN
FIRMS TURN TO VIRTUAL-LIFE SITE FOR INTERVIEWS
By HANNAH SELIGSON

GO FIGURE: In Second Life interviews, candidates let their "avatars" do the talking.

February 4, 2008-- NATHAN Tia, a creative lead for Centric, a new-media agency, has never met his boss face to face. And it's not because he's an underperformer who hasn't been singled out for a pat on the back.
It's because Tia, who works from home, was hired through a "virtual interview," conducted on the Internet-based virtual world Second Life

SECOND LIFE

This was my first time on second life as I tried downloading to my mac and it would freeze everytime. I must admit i was a bit weary of it as i think theres something a bit odd about people sitting at their computer for hours on end, pretending to be someone else!

after going around the virtual world for some time, i began to have some fun with it. i changed my clothes, and started talking to a few "people". Although i think my really bad facial hair scared a few people off!!

Image That screams colour and light...

This is a photo i took on the M11 using long exposure, i like it because you don't have much control over the outcome but somehow they always look quite cool!

This is perhaps quite an obvious example of colour and light but its a photograph that I am quite proud of. I like the contrast between the foreground and background and the vibrance.
